If you want to make the best pumpkin pies ever, you want to plant Small Sugar pumpkins. They've been around for centuries, and remain the pie making and canning champions. Their seeds are super for roasting too! Perfect in size and shape, and as ideal as it gets when it comes to their orange color. 80-110 days.
Plant Information
Also known as New England Pie, the Small Sugar pumpkin was introduced before 1860 and is still regarded as the standard for pumpkin pies and canning. That's because its flesh is very fine-grained and stringless in texture, as well as perfectly sweet, and its delightful yellow-orange color is oh-so easy on the eyes. And let's not forget how all-around adorable Small Sugar pumpkins are to look at. Approximately 10 inches in diameter and 5-8 pounds when fully mature, they're a smaller variety with a nearly perfect circumference that's smooth and shallowly ribbed, and an ever-so-slightly flattened appearance that also makes them very stable. This means they're also ideal as decorations too! Small Sugar pumpkins keep very well when stored in a cellar or other cool, dry place. To help with longevity, be sure to harvest them with their stems still intact.
