Plant Information
Also known as New England Pie, the Small Sugar pumpkin was introduced before 1860 and is still regarded as the standard for pumpkin pies and canning. Its flesh is stringless and very fine-grained in texture, as well as perfectly sweet. Its delightful yellow-orange color is oh-so easy on the eyes, and let's not forget how all-around adorable Small Sugar pumpkins are to look at. Approximately 10 inches in diameter and 5-8 pounds when fully mature, they're a smaller variety with a nearly perfect circumference that's smooth and shallowly ribbed, and an ever-so-slightly flattened appearance that also makes them very stable. They're ideal as decorations too! Small Sugar pumpkins keep very well when stored in a cellar or other cool, dry place. To help with longevity, be sure to harvest them with their stems still intact.
