Silver Beet, also known as Swiss Chard, is likened to spinach and beet greens but some would say even more flavorful. Large leaves and stems are excellent raw or cooked. Continuous harvest of three or more crops per season. Tolerant of hot weather and extremely easy to grow. 50-65 days.
Plant Information
An all-time favorite that's been a winner for generations, Silver Queen corn is as delicious in taste as it is impressive in size. The hardy late-season variety grows stalks upwards of 8 feet, each producing several ears up to 9 inches in length and big enough around to boast 14-16 rows of kernels. Like most corn, Silver Queen is wind pollinated, so you'll want to plant it in a block of shorter rows versus one long row. Choose a sunny spot in your garden that's at least 10x10 feet in size, making sure it's on a side that won't create shade for other plants when the corn stalks get tall. Silver Queen corn is ready to harvest when you notice the silks have turned brown and the ears feel firm. For best flavor and texture, pick, cook, and eat your corn the same day. You can also freeze the ears if you want to save some for later.
