Plant Information
Grown in the U.S. since 1850 and very popular in California and the Southwest, Casaba Golden Beauty melons are thought to have originated in Asia Minor near the Turkish town of Kassabeh. Their beautiful, golden-yellow appearance gives them their name, while their sweetly spicy white flesh helps them maintain their spot at the top. The vigorous vine plants will produce a generous yield of several 6-inch fruits, each weighing 7-8 pounds when mature. Growing your own Casaba Golden Beauty melons is so much better than buying them in the store. Not only are vine-ripened melons bigger and juicier, they're also more flavorful and fragrant. This is because growing them yourself allows them to stay on the vine for as long as possible, where they can absorb all those amazing nutrients and sugars until the very last minute before picking. You'll know your Casaba melons are ready to be harvested when the skin color between the rind netting is no longer green. The ends will be softer and the blossom end will also have a wonderfully fruity aroma. Gently pull on the melon, and if it detaches with ease it's ready to enjoy.
