Plant Information
The name "Mammoth Melting" is so fitting for this sugar pea variety because it's been such a huge favorite for so many years. It's known for producing generous yields and for being really easy to grow, and it enjoys a long harvest thanks to the fact that you can plant it twice per season - in early spring for a summer harvest and in mid-summer for a second crop in the fall. Mammoth Melting sugar peas also live up to their big name when it comes to size. Each plant will grow as tall as 7 feet and bear countless pods that are 4-5 inches in length and contain 5-8 sweet peas each. For best results, support growing plants with stakes or pea fencing and then use a trellis or taller structure as they continue to climb. Intended for eating whole, the plump Mammoth Melting pods are tender and sweet with a crispness and crunch that will add a lot to a salad or stir fry. They're also wonderful eaten solo as a healthy snack and will remain sweeter longer than other sugar pea varieties.
