Petite in size but big in flavor, this early cabbage has a distinctly sweet taste. Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage is ideal for eating raw in salad or slaw, and is equally enjoyable cooked or pickled. Fairly unfussy when it comes to climates. Requires very little attention. Impressive yield. 60-70 days.
Plant Information
Referred to as "the cabbage with a pedigree," Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage was adapted from and old English variety called Early Wakefield. It was first introduced in the US in the mid-1800s and has become a popular crop in gardens across the country. The heads of Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage are small, compact, pale green, and conical, and average 2-4 pounds in weight. Their smaller size gives them a deliciously sweet flavor, the heads are resistant to yellowing and splitting, and they're tolerant of harsher weather conditions thanks to their protective outer leaves.
