Take one-bite of the Tonda di Parigi carrot, and you’ll polish off a whole carrot. This delectable small round carrot has been in our seed collection since 1891. Developed to grow in soil that is more clay than loam, it is also a favorite for the kid’s garden since it matures before the longer tapered roots.
The Tonda Di Parigi carrot was developed in the late 19th century near Paris and quickly gained popularity thanks to its uniquely spherical appearance. It's a round, deep-orange carrot that is harvested when it is no more than 2 inches long. And it's best planted thick so that it bunches to enhance its round shape. Sweet in flavor and tender in texture, it's a fantastic carrot for gardeners with little growing space as its shallow roots allow it to be planted in containers or beds. Just be sure it has at least 8 inches of soil depth. Tonda di Parigi carrots get their name from the Italian words for "Round of Paris." Their snack size and unique shape make them extra fun to have around the kitchen, whether cutting them up for stews and soups or using them whole in a salad.
